Black Maternal Health Conference 2023

The Motherhood Group hosted the first Black Maternal Health Conference UK, spotlighting bridging the gap between Community, Service providers and Industries.

This interactive event supported in rebuilding the trust between the community and service providers, exploring the role of systemic racism, human rights and structural change, and how to effectively engage with Black mothers. We discussed barriers, how to de-stigmatise mental health, highlight what unconscious bias looks like in maternity care, how this impacts mothers, and addressed inequalities affecting ethnic minority women in pregnancy care - as well as access and effective intervention.

We highlighted the gaps within the system and disparities - whilst providing nuance and further reiterating the importance of Black women receiving health care that is respectful, culturally competent, safe and of the highest quality.

Putting the voices of lived- experience to the forefront, through engaging discussions, informative presentations , interactive sessions and a space for applied learning. We had powerful and reputable voices within the sector contributing to the day which supporting in improving Black women’s health outcomes.
