Motherhood is beautiful, but it can also be deeply isolating — especially for Black women navigating emotional overwhelm, cultural expectations, identity shifts, and the weight of being “the strong one” in every space they occupy.
At The Motherhood Group, we understand the power of community and the need for culturally safe care. That’s why we host free weekly group therapy sessions, held in a confidential, audio-only format, designed for Black mothers who are seeking connection, calm, and clarity.
Each session is led by our Resident Psychotherapist, a qualified Caribbean therapist with deep clinical expertise and a lived understanding of the Black maternal experience. Whether you are experiencing stress, burnout, anxiety, loneliness, or simply need a non-judgmental space to exhale — this is for you.
What These Sessions Offer
These weekly sessions take place every Wednesday evening from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM (UK time) on the Mumbrite App — a unique digital platform designed specifically to support Black mothers. You don’t need to worry about having your camera on; you can simply join as you are. Whether you choose to speak and share or just listen and be present, you’re warmly welcomed into this safe and nurturing space.
Our sessions provide a dedicated time and place for you to unpack the emotional load that motherhood can bring, all without judgment or shame. Here, you can explore the joys and challenges of motherhood in an environment where your experiences are understood and honoured. This is more than just a group — it’s a digital village grounded in culturally competent therapeutic care, collective healing, and community support.
Why This Matters
Black mothers in the UK are disproportionately affected by poor mental health outcomes. Research shows that Black women are more likely to experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, and emotional distress — yet less likely to access mental health support due to stigma, cost, or lack of culturally safe services.
