A multi-site evidence-based peer support intervention
Enhanced Parental Confidence
YMC offers a multi-site evidence-based peer support intervention underpinned by theory and practice drawn from psychoeducation, creative therapies, mentalisation, and person-centred practice. Peer support groups will be provided to 300 young mothers and their children. Groups are delivered weekly and are open-ended. Peer support groups will be delivered across multiple sites in each locality.
Outcomes for families on the programme:
The Motherhood Group was brought on as a Partner, alongside Mental Health Foundation, Nottingham City Council (NCC) and MumsAid (MA)
Enhanced parental confidence and skill in promoting healthy parent-infant attachment
Enhanced maternal mental health, including use of coping strategies to promote healthy parenting
Mothers’ increased help-seeking where additional support needs are identified
Enhanced maternal and child life chances through increased access to opportunities and support
The Motherhood group agreed to:
Actively contribute
to the successful development and delivery of the YMC programme, including the roll out of Workforce Development Packages.
Attend YMC peer support groups
to raise the profile of The Motherhood Group support offers, liaising effectively with the project delivery team to enable this to take place.
Create and deliver
Workforce Development Packages that are bespoke to the YMC project
Work collaboratively
with the Foundation to develop the Workforce Development Package (one module that runs for approximately one hour) and to provide ample time for the Foundation’s internal sign off processes.
Provide a supportive & advisory role
in relation to the YMC peer support model, engagement methods, sector-wide promotion and other related activities, as part of Partnership Meetings and other ad-hoc working groups.
