3 ways to find out your WHY after giving birth By Nonie Leonard

9 June 2023

Motherhood is one of those things that comes with no manual. Everyday is a new day to create your own manual and see if it works or not. I remember when I was pregnant with my first child, I had this vision of how I would rock motherhood, always looking great, baby too, the house always clean and marriage rocking it too. Let's not even talk about my faith journey that was going to be on fire, well lets just say sis managed all these things but at what cost?

This was me in 2017, with a new baby in tow, recently married and just moved into a new house. All these were major transitions that happened in my life and on a normal day would require some time to process, but not this sis, once again she thought she had it all figured out. It wasn’t until late September, after 3 months of going back to full - time work that it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks - BURN OUT!

I burnt out completely and this showed up in extreme weight loss, loss of motivation and NOT KNOWING ME! At this point I knew something had to change and so the journey to find my WHY again began.  3 ways I did this that I hope will help you on your journey of self discovery were:

  1. Give  yourself  permission to TAKE A BREAK from it all and do a wellness check.

3 areas of your wellness check to look at are emotional, physical and mental wellbeing (mind, body and soul). These 3 areas of your wellbeing are the foundation of WHO you are and HOW you show up for yourself and loved ones. If your cup is running empty on this, it’s  time to STOP, REFUEL and RESET yourself back to YOU again, a wiser version of yourself.

  1. Create a Vision Board of what this new version of your life looks like and what you desire it to BE. This is when you will see a great shift of perspective in yourself and your desires because with your vision board you are creating WHAT YOU desire for your life by asking yourself, what is your Biggest Motivation and your WHY for the things you desire in this new life.

  1. As a woman of faith, I leaned in so much on my relationship with God during this dry season in my life. There are some things that you believe should be what you do and who you are after giving birth, but each birth experience is different and therefore you lose a part of you as you give birth. It's only fair to go back to the one that gave you life and say “HEY it's me again, I am lost and confused about my purpose now after this baby, please guide me as I navigate these uncharted waters and rediscover my WHY again.”

I hope these ways will help you as you rediscover yourself again.
